Claudia M. Morehead is a California corporate attorney and advisor with close to 30 years of experience assisting companies, businesses and organizations in the for profit and nonprofit sectors accomplish their goals in a creative and cost effective manner. She represents a wide array of clients, ranging from large multi-national corporations to small family owned businesses. Most recently she has developed a vibrant nonprofit practice which includes clients that are emerging megachurches and educational institutions in Southern California as well as private foundations, associations, and other tax exempt organizations.
Ms. Morehead spent fourteen years in New York City serving for 2 years as counsel to Scor Reinsurance Company and for 7 years counsel to Munich American Reinsurance Company. In 1996 she became the general counsel of the CORE Group, a start-up group of five insurance and reinsurance companies funded by GE Capital and Employers Reinsurance Company. In 1999 she relocated to Southern California where she first joined Bryan Cave LLP and later the Los Angeles office of Fulbright & Jaworski LLP. In 2007 she joined the Costa Mesa office of Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith LLP as a partner. In April 2009 Ms. Morehead left the large firm environment to open her own firm in Newport Beach.
Ms. Morehead's practice focuses on three primary practice areas: churches and other nonprofit organizations, for profit corporations and businesses, and labor and employment law. Her broad experience in the reinsurance industry, where her responsibilities included structuring reinsurance transactions, drafting reinsurance contracts and providing counsel to the claims, marketing and human resources departments, has given her unique insight into all aspects of business law. From business plans, to corporate reorganizations, to employment litigation, she is ready to ensure your success. In addition, the Morehead Firm has several ongoing "Of Counsel" relationships with lawyers who provide special expertise to the firm in the areas of tax, real estate and litigation.
Ms. Morehead is a 1980 graduate of McGeorge School of Law where she was a member of the Traynor Society and a 1976 graduate of the University of the Pacific. Upon graduation from law school, she clerked at the Washington State Court of Appeals for the Hon. Patrick Corbett and was in private practice in Seattle, Washington for five years.
Ms. Morehead is an active member of the bar in three states: California, Washington and New York. She has served on a number of bar committees in each of these states and was a Small Claims Court arbitrator in New York City for four years. Ms. Morehead is also a reinsurance arbitrator, having been certified by "ARIAS U.S.", the AIDA Reinsurance and Insurance Arbitration Society. |
